It wasn’t a big secret, but Dale Earnhardt Jr. officially announced a race that he will be behind the wheel of the No. 8 JR Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro SS in the NASCAR Xfinity Series this season.

In a reply to a Twitter user who was hoping to see Earnhardt behind the wheel in a race in 2019, Earnhardt replied with the following Tweet:

This confirms a speculation which was started when Earnhardt posted a partial throwback paint scheme that he said he wanted to run on Twitter last year. Fueling the rumor even further was the fact that no driver was listed in the No. 8 ride for the Xfinity Series race at Darlington when JR Motorsports announced their driver line up and schedules for 2019.

Now that Earnhardt will officially be running during Darlington’s throwback weekend, we wonder if his spitball scheme is still intact.

If so, it appears he will run the same paint scheme that his father drove in his first-ever Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series start in the 1975 Coca-Cola 600.

Earnhardt retired from full-time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series competition at the conclusion of the 2017 season. Last year, Earnhardt began his on-air commentating career with NBC Sports, and he has been given rave reviews.

The North Carolina-native also competed in the fall Xfinity Series race at Richmond. Earnhardt started second that night and would go on to lead an impressive 96 laps before fading to a fourth-place finish.

In all, Earnhardt has 26 wins in the Cup Series to go along with 24 wins in the Xfinity Series. Earnhardt also won back-to-back NXS titles back in 1998 and 1999.
