Video: Ty Gibbs Suffers Massive Impact Into Outside Wall on Lap 2 at Phoenix

Ty Gibbs will end the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season without scoring his maiden NASCAR Cup Series win as the driver of the No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing saw a massive impact into the outside wall end his day on Lap two at Phoenix Raceway.

Gibbs looked like his car had a bit of a handling issue, as he collided with the wall on the exit of Turn 4. As the driver of the No. 54 machine worked his way down the frontstretch dog leg, it appeared a toe link broke, and his car shot to the right, and collided hard with the outside SAFER barrier.

The impact caused catastrophic damage to Gibbs’ car, which put him out of the race, but luckily nobody else was involved, and even more fortunately, Gibbs was able to walk away from the crash.

“Yeah, I’m okay, I think,” Gibbs said to Motor Racing Network after being evaluated and released from the infield car center. “Just wish the cars were a little softer.”
