Kyle Busch (pictured) and Ty Gibbs will have to start at the rear of the field Sunday at Kansas after crashes in practice following cut tires.

In a less-than-ideal start to the NASCAR Cup Series race weekend at Kansas Speedway, Kyle Busch and the No. 8 Richard Childress Racing team will have to start at the rear of the field in Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400. Busch suffered a cut tire late in Saturday’s practice session, which caused his Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 to go into the outside wall.

Here is a video of Busch’s crash in practice:

This is the second race of the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs, and it’s the second week in a row that Busch has found trouble in practice leading into the weekend.

“Just like every other weekend. Always put in a hole,” Busch said with frustration. “Always behind, and have to come and dig ourselves out. Hate it for all of the guys, the car was really good. Had really good longevity, there. We were just running laps — running some pretty good laps, comparatively to the rest of our group that we were with at that time.

“Just going to fine-tune on some things in order to get ready for qualifying, and here we are starting last again. Just never ends. I don’t know what to do to change it.”

After Busch suffered his issue, Ty Gibbs suffered a similar fate as he cut a tire on his No. 54 Toyota Camry TRD, which sent him hard into the outside wall as well. Gibbs, like Busch, will have to start from the rear of the field.

William Byron also had issues in the session, as a suspension piece broke on his No. 24 Chevrolet Camaro. Fortunately, for Byron, he was able to keep from compounding his issues, and was able to get to pit road without incident, but he missed a lot of track time.
