Shane van Gisbergen, who has amassed three wins through the opening 23 races of his NASCAR Cup Series rookie campaign, will not be going anywhere anytime soon. On Friday afternoon, the New Zealand native and Trackhouse Racing announced that the parties have reached a multiyear contract extension.

“I feel like Trackhouse Racing is my home,” said Van Gisbergen in a team press release. “Trackhouse gave me the opportunity to race at Chicago in 2023. That was just a one-race deal, and everything that has happened since then is because of the chance Justin [Marks] took on me. The men and women at Trackhouse have helped me feel at home in this new challenge, and I’ve been loving every minute of it. We still have a lot of work to do, but I couldn’t be happier.”
As van Gisbergen continues to hone his abilities on the oval tracks in NASCAR, the 36-year-0ld racer has shown supreme talent on road course layouts in his short tenure in the NASCAR National Series ranks.
This season alone, van Gisbergen has collected NASCAR Cup Series wins at Mexico City, the Chicago Street Course, and Sonoma Raceway, and he also captured the NASCAR Xfinity Series win at the Chicago Street Course, driving the No. 9 JR Motorsports Chevrolet.
Prior to this season, SVG captured a victory in his NASCAR Cup Series debut in the 2023 Chicago Street Race. Last season, the racer nabbed three wins in his 33-race NASCAR Xfinity Series rookie campaign. In all, van Gisbergen has already claimed eight victories (four in the NASCAR Cup Series and four in the NASCAR Xfinity Series) in NASCAR National Series competition, all of which have come on road course layouts.
Justin Marks, team owner of Trackhouse Racing, loves what he has seen from the legend of the Australian Supercars Series, and feels van Gisbergen is one of the great talents in auto racing today.
“We are getting to watch one of the superstars of racing,” said Marks. “What we are asking him to do carries a high degree of difficulty. He’s moved to the other side of the world, learned a new form of racing, and at times dominated the competition. He’s one of the greatest.”
With a multiyear contract extension in his back pocket, van Gisbergen will set out to further cement his maiden NASCAR Cup Series Playoff run as he’ll attempt to accumulate additional Playoff Points in Sunday’s Go Bowling at The Glen at Watkins Glen International.
Currently, van Gisbergen ranks 25th in the NASCAR Cup Series regular season standings, but by virtue of his 17 earned Playoff Points, van Gisbergen will be near the top of the championship standings when they are re-racked for the Playoffs.
