In one of the most dominant performances in recent history, Martin Truex Jr. led 464 of the 500 laps to win Sunday’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series First Data 500 at Martinsville.

This is Truex’s Series-leading seventh win of the 2019 season, and he is the first driver who has secured his place in the Championship 4 at Homestead in three weeks.

Although Truex dominated, he had to hold off a hard charging William Byron over the closing laps.

Byron closed to within a half second of Truex, but just ran out of time. This marks Byron’s second runner-up effort of the season.

Brad Keselowski, who won at Martinsville in the spring, finished third.

Denny Hamlin, who started from the pole and led the first 31 laps of the race, finished fourth.

Ryan Blaney was among the front runners all race long and finished fifth.

Kurt Busch, Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano, Kyle Larson and Ryan Newman rounded out the top-10 finishers on the day.
