Ross Chastain Martin Truex Jr. incident Stage 2 Darlington 2023 NASCAR Cup Series
Martin Truex Jr. and Ross Chastain made contact for the race lead at the end of Stage 2 of Sunday’s Goodyear 400 at Darlington, which led to Truex spinning out.

Well, that’s not how you want to end a Stage. Martin Truex Jr., who won Stage 1 of Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway, was chasing down Ross Chastain for the race lead on the final lap of Stage 2.

As Truex made his move to the inside of Chastain, Chastain scrubbed the wall, which sent him slightly into Truex. Truex then lost control and spun out, which handed the Stage win to Chastain.

Here is a video of the incident that marked the end of Stage 2:

Truex was the dominant driver of the first half of Sunday’s race as he led 137 of the first 138 laps. But then on a green flag pit sequence in Stage 2, Truex had trouble on pit road, and Ross Chastain’s car came to life, which led to Chastain pouncing past Truex for the lead.
