ORIGINAL STORY: Sunday, November 6th at 1:05 PM ET —

An unexpected development has occurred at Phoenix Raceway, as Ty Gibbs, the winner of the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship who was set to run the NASCAR Cup Series season finale, will apparently no longer race.

While no official announcement has come from Joe Gibbs Racing or 23XI Racing, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio reports that Gibbs will miss the race due to an unspecified family emergency.

While it is unknown what the family emergency is, best wishes are with Gibbs and his family.

Jeff Gluck of The Athletic reports that the 23XI Racing team has swapped the seat in the No. 23 Toyota Camry to accommodate another driver, who has not been announced yet.

Gibbs, who has made 15 starts during the NASCAR Cup Series season in relief of the injured Kurt Busch, achieved the biggest accolade of his young racing career Saturday at Phoenix Raceway as he held off Noah Gragson for the win and championship in the NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship Race.

Gibbs has recorded 11 victories in 51-career NASCAR Xfinity Series starts and he has one top-10 finish through his first 15-career NASCAR Cup Series starts.
