Talk about a change in fortunes for Martin Truex Jr., as a choice to hit pit road on lap 246 has resulted in Martin Truex Jr. gaining the lead late in the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race at Phoenix Raceway.

As Truex’s team was performing their pit stop, Anthony Alfredo cut a tire and slammed into the wall very hard.

Here is Alfredo’s crash:

Luckily, for Truex, he was able to stay on the lead lap as the field slowed for the caution. As such, Truex was able to inherit the lead when the remainder of the field hit pit road during the caution.

Going into the pit cycle, Truex was the fourth-highest running Championship 4 contender.
