Ty Gibbs Goes Wire to Wire in ARCA Menards Series Event at Kansas

PC: ARCA Racing | Twitter

In what can surely be considered one of the most dominating performances in the ARCA Menards Series’ recent history, Ty Gibbs will emerge from Kansas Speedway with the trophy, while also making up important points on points leader Corey Heim.

The 18-year-old grandson of NASCAR Cup Series team owner Joe Gibbs, became the first driver to lead every single lap in an ARCA Menards Series event since Kevin Swindell did so at Chicagoland in 2012 for his first-ever victory in the series.

Drew Dollar – who appeared to be the closest rival for Ty Gibbs in the event — finished in the runner-up position, with Corey Heim rounding out the top-three finishers. In fourth-place, Jack Wood scored his first top-five in ARCA Menards Series competition, with Derek Griffith rounding out the top-five.

Both Greg Van Alst – seventh — and Alex Clubb – 10th — each earned their first top-10 finish in the ARCA Menards Series, while both DL Wilson and Jason Miles also collected a career-best result.

On the first lap of the race, Bret Holmes got into a three-wide situation in turn three, with his Chevrolet SS snapping loose and spinning up the track, directly into the path of Scott Melton’s No. 69, which hit the defending champion in the driver’s side door. Both drivers were able to emerge from their cars uninjured.

Exiting Kansas, Corey Heim – winner at Daytona and Talladega — leads the point standings by 13 points over teammate Drew Dollar – who is not scheduled to run full-time this season. Ty Gibbs (-23), Kyle Sieg (-28) and Thad Moffitt (-38) round out the top-five in points.
