During pre-race inspection for Saturday’s NASCAR Cup Series FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway did not go well for Roush Fenway Racing. The two-car team, which fields the No. 6 car for Ryan Newman and No. 17 car for Chris Buescher, had both of the spoilers on their cars confiscated by NASCAR.

According to NASCAR, the spoilers violated rule 20.4.12.b.

As a result, both drivers will lose 20 driver points, both teams will lose 20 owner points, both crew chiefs will have a $25,000 fine and both drivers will drop to the rear of the field before Saturday’s event.

Newman was slated to start from the 13th position, while Buescher was set to roll from the 22nd position.

The points penalty drops Chris Buescher from 21st to 24th in the driver standings, while Newman stays 26th in the driver championship standings.

The No. 6 team falls from 21st to 24th, while the No. 17 team falls from 22nd to 26th in the owner standings.

The teams could face addition penalties after the race weekend. If there are additional penalties, they will be announced by NASCAR early next week.
