William Byron Confirms He Spun Out During NextGen Test at Auto Club

Things apparently got a bit nerve-racking for a moment for William Byron during Monday’s NASCAR NextGen Car test at Auto Club Speedway. The 22-year old Hendrick Motorsports driver took the car for a spin — literally — but luckily according to a report from a Twitter user, he didn’t hit anything.

A photo of the spin, which occurred off of turn four, has surfaced on Twitter thanks to Twitter user @Follow_Trejo.

On Tuesday, Byron confirmed that the incident did indeed take place and that he didn’t hit anything.

In a now-deleted Tweet, Byron responded to a photo of himself spinning the NextGen car by saying, “Lol that was yesterday first run and didn’t hit anything.”

After Byron’s tweet was deleted, Twitter user @Ricky_Kennedy20 shared video of Byron’s NextGen spin:

Byron, who was driving the third edition of the NextGen prototype on Monday, is scheduled to test the car more on Tuesday.

In 75-career NASCAR Cup Series starts, Byron has a career-best finish of second, which he achieved twice a year ago at Daytona in July and Martinsville in the fall.

Byron, a North Carolina native, scored four wins en route to a NASCAR Xfinity Series championship in 2017, and he also scored an all-time record seven wins during his rookie campaign in the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series in 2016.
