Alpha Prime Racing has flipped the script on their 2022 plans, confirming on Thursday that the team will change its No. 45 entry from part-time, to a full-time entry, joining the flagship No. 44 this season in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Sage Karam – an eight-time starter of the Indianapolis 500 — will continue his part-time foray into NASCAR’s top-three series with a partial schedule in the organization’s No. 45 Chevrolet Camaro.

The 26-year-old will make his debut with Alpha Prime Racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series event at the newly reconfigured Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday, March 19th.

“I’m extremely grateful for the opportunities that 2021 provided and am equally as excited to join Alpha Prime Racing for 2022,” Karam said. “I can’t thank Tommy Joe Martins enough for his trust and confidence heading into this season. I welcome the opportunity to learn from him and his team and look forward to competing against some of the toughest competition in motorsports.”

Karam’s schedule will see a significant increase over the four NASCAR National Series starts he made in 2021, with the Nazareth, Pennsylvania-native expected to compete in 12 to 16 races throughout the 2022 season.

“As competitive as the Xfinity Series field is going to be this year, it’s even more important to our team to bring in talented drivers like Sage,” said Tommy Joe Martins, co-owner of Alpha Prime Racing. “Sage is a top-level racecar driver with a history of success in everything he’s ever driven. We can’t wait to work with him.

Ryan Ellis – Karam’s Shelby Park Marketing ‘teammate’ — will also race for Alpha Prime Racing in 2022, as previously announced. Additional details regarding the organization’s complete driver lineup will be released at a later date.

The 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series season goes green in Daytona for the Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner 300 on Saturday, February 19th at 5 p.m. on FOX Sports 1.
