Layne Riggs – the current NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series points leader — will make his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut in the TSport 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park (July 29), the driver announced Tuesday.

Riggs, the son of former NASCAR Cup Series driver Scott Riggs, will pilot the No. 62 Infinity Communications / Puryear Tank Lines Toyota Tundra TRD Pro for Halmar Friesen Racing in the series’ return to IRP.

This opportunity comes as a result of tirelessly working – alongside his father – to one day compete at the top level of motorsports, as well as his father’s pre-existing relationship with Halmar Friesen Racing crew chief, Trip Bruce.

“I’m so thankful to get this opportunity,” Riggs said. “My dad and Trip Bruce were friends back in the day and Trip watched us the night we swept both races at Hickory Motor Speedway. It’s all about timing and hopefully, I can make everyone proud.”

At just 20 years old, Riggs has put together an astonishing resume, amassing six victories in the CARS Late Model Stock Tour. This season, Riggs has focused his efforts on chasing the national NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series Championship, paying off with 13 victories this season.

“I know this is going to be a big learning curve for me,” Layne said. “The trucks have radial tires and are much heavier. Aero is going to be involved and that’s something I’ve never really had to deal with before. A lot of curveballs are being thrown at me, but I have a lot of good people on my side to help me tackle this the best I can.”

The Bahama, North Carolina-native believes that the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series’ prolonged absence from IRP will benefit him in his series debut, as the entire field faces a myriad of unknowns.

“A Top 10 finish would be a good goal,” Layne said. “I want to win every race I’m a part of, but we have to be realistic against guys who are veterans… If I can have a good showing and let everyone know I was there, then I’ll be happy.”

In addition to his series debut with Halmar Friesen Racing at IRP, Riggs will return to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for a second event at Richmond Raceway, piloting the No. 62.

“With the success that Layne has demonstrated in a late model at tracks like South Boston, Dominion, Hickory, and Wake, we’re excited to see what he can do in our #62 HFR Tundra at IRP,” said Stewart Friesen. “We’re looking forward to working with Layne and Scott Riggs for these races.”
