Kyle Weatherman has been tapped to join JD Motorsports in Saturday’s Tennessee Lottery 250 at Nashville Superspeedway, replacing Garrett Smithley as the driver of the No. 4 Chevrolet Camaro in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

The 25-year-old driver, who has spent the first half of the season piecing together a multi-race campaign with several organizations, may have found some stability in the two-car operation, as the team says that Weatherman is a possibility to drive the entry for the remainder of the season.

“We’re confident we’ll have a good run Saturday at Nashville with Kyle,” said Johnny Davis, owner of JD Motorsports. “This is a change as well look forward to the second half of the season, and we’re hoping this will work out for the best for all involved. This series only gets tougher, and we’re putting everything together to give the No. 4 team their best shot.”

Weatherman is the fourth driver to join JD Motorsports to pilot the No. 4 Chevrolet Camaro in 2023, after the team started the season with Bayley Currey, before pivoting to having Garrett Smithley take over the entry. Ty Dillon drove the entry at Sonoma.

“Garrett [Smithley] has been an important part of this team and what it’s been able to do over the years,” said Davis. “We appreciate the input he has had, the strength and smarts he’s shown on the racetrack, and the network of people and sponsors he’s brought along. We wish him only the best.”

At Nashville, Weatherman will have sponsorship from Trophy Tractor, Dozer Winch, TailGater, Page Construction, Hoffman Tools, RFID Solutions, ClearView Asset Protection, and PCA RX.

“We’ll be riding with a good group of sponsors for Nashville, and that market is one of the best of the year for the series,” Davis said. “It should be a big weekend.”

So far this season, Weatherman has made eight starts in the second-tier series, driving for several organizations including Our Motorsports, FRS Racing, SS GreenLight Racing, and DGM Racing, recording a best finish of 14th at Dover.
