Jeb Burton will have a special paint scheme on his No. 27 Our Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro this weekend at Portland International Raceway, as his car will honor the families and victims of the May 24th tragedy at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.
Our Motorsports made the announcement on Friday afternoon, after NASCAR Xfinity Series practice at the 1.97-mile road course.
The scheme, in addition to being a touching tribute to those lost in the shooting, will serve as a means to collect donations for the families of those lost in the tragic event.
“We’ll be racing with a purpose and a goal this Saturday – and that’s to deliver the best finish possible for everyone affected by last week’s tragedy at Robb Elementary School,” said Burton in the team release. “I’m asking the NASCAR community to come together and show their support by texting UVALDE to 501501 and making a $10 donation to help each family of the 21 victims who are struggling to cope with the loss of their loved ones.”
Per the Our Motorsports press release, the $10 donation, by texting UVALDE to 501501, will appear as a one-time donation on your wireless phone bill.
In addition to the text message donations and paint scheme showcasing the school’s colors and mascot, the No. 27 car will feature 21 angel wings on the decklid of the car.
For Uvalde CISD, they are overwhelmed by the incredible actions taken by Burton, Our Motorsports and NASCAR.
“On behalf of the entire Uvalde CISD, we express our sincerest gratitude for the remarkable support of the NASCAR Xfinity Series. We are heartbroken at the innocent lives lost,” said Dr. Hal Harrell, Superintendent of Uvalde CISD. “The Uvalde CISD Administration, staff, and families will forever be thankful for the support of our community and nation. We believe in ourselves, pray for a brighter future, and together we are #Uvaldestrong.”
