It’s incredible how fast your fortunes can change in NASCAR, isn’t it? For 17 laps, it looked like Ryan Sieg would be going on to score his first career NASCAR Xfinity Series win in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 at Texas Motor Speedway. But then, on the final lap, Sam Mayer got a run on Sieg off of Turn 4. The two touched, and then Mayer narrowly defeated Sieg to the finish line by an inch or two.

Following the race, NASCAR inspected Mayer’s race-winning No. 1 Carolina Carports JR Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro, where the race car passed with no issues. As a result, NASCAR officially declared Mayer and his team the winners of Saturday’s race.

Officially, the win came by just 0.002 sec., which is tied for the second-closest finish in Series history.

For Mayer, this is his fifth career NASCAR Xfinity Series win, and it’s his first in what had been a disappointing 2024 season until Saturday’s race.

The No. 9 JR Motorsports entry, which was driven by Brandon Jones, and the No. 48 Big Machine Racing entry, which was driven by Parker Kligerman, each had one unsecured lug nut in post-race tech, which will result in a monetary fine for their crew chiefs.

With no other issues in tech, the results following Saturday’s race at Texas have been made official by NASCAR.

Sieg was the runner-up finisher, which marks his third career runner-up finish. The driver, who has made 342 career starts in the series will have to wait at least one more for his first trip to victory lane.

Justin Allgaier, AJ Allmendinger, and Cole Custer came home in positions three through five.

Austin Hill, Ryan Truex, Sammy Smith, Jesse Love, and Anthony Alfredo rounded out the top-10 finishers.
