After coming up just short each of the last two seasons, Austin Hill finally broke through and scored the win at Homestead to advance to the Championship Four at Phoenix. The Richard Childress Racing driver swept both of the race’s stages and led 82 laps, more than any other driver on the path to victory.

Hill took the lead for the third and final time with a pass on Stewart-Haas Racing’s Cole Custer on the backstretch with 12 laps remaining in Saturday evening’s Credit One NASCAR Amex Credit Card 300 NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs Round of 8 race at Homestead.

The race-winning No. 21 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet Camaro, like the rest of the field, was examined in post-race technical inspection, where NASCAR officials declared the car had passed, making Hill’s first career Homestead-Miami Speedway victory and first Championship 4 berth official.

The No. 1 JR Motorsports Car (Sam Mayer), No. 21 Richard Childress Racing Car (Austin Hill), and the No. 39 RSS Racing car (Kyle Sieg) had one unsecured lug nut each in post-race inspection, which will result in a monetary fine for their crew chiefs.

No other issues were found in the remainder of tech inspection, and all results and standings following the Credit One NASCAR Amex Credit Card 300 are now considered official.

Cole Custer, the defending NASCAR Xfinity Series champion, officially came up one position shy of officially securing his place in the Championship 4 field, but can still do so next weekend at Martinsville Speedway.

Aric Almirola, Jesse Love, and Sheldon Creed rounded out the top five finishers in the event.
