DGM Racing Spotter Brad Campbell Passes Away After Injuries Sustained in Traffic Crash

Brad Campbell, who served as the spotter for DGM Racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series this season, passed away on Friday at 5:41 AM ET at the age of 34. Campbell had sustained multiple injuries in a traffic accident on the way to Texas Motor Speedway last week.

According to Jesse Vaughan, a close friend of Campbell and fellow spotter, Campbell had been spotting race cars for roughly 10 years, but had picked it up professionally in 2017.

Vaughan recalled when Campbell’s first big break came at Mid Ohio in 2017.

“Three years ago, Brad sent me a message on Facebook asking for tips and advice for spotting,” Vaughan recalled in a written statement. “He knew I lived in Virginia and spent some time at South Boston. We exchanged phone numbers and chatted for a while. Then when a car had an opening in August of 2017 at Mid Ohio at the last second, I called and asked if he’d be willing to drive to Ohio to spot. He jumped at the opportunity, slept on the floor of our hotel room while Glenn snored, and spotted his first Xfinity race on his birthday. He never missed a beat. He jumped in feet first and did great.”

Capmbell was an EMT away from the race track and he even spent two months in New York City earlier this year on the front lines helping battle COVID-19.

According to the GoFundMe, Campbell sustained a broken fibula and femur in both legs, a fractured rib and many scrapes and bruises. During a scheduled 6-8 hour surgery to repair his legs, Campbell experienced complications.

Campbell was an organ donor, and the donation of his kidneys have already saved two lives.
