UPDATE: CJ McLaughlin tells TobyChristie.com that at Daytona (August 23) he will pilot the No. 14 Chevrolet Camaro for SS-GreenLight Racing, but in events at Atlanta (September 7) and Talladega (October 5) he will be piloting the team’s No. 07 Chevrolet Camaro.
After spending several months away from NASCAR Xfinity Series competition, CJ McLaughlin is making his return to the second-tier series next month at Daytona International Speedway, and doing so with a new sponsor and team.
A native of Framingham, Massachusetts, McLaughlin will partner with SS-GreenLight Racing to pilot the No. 14 Chevrolet Camaro in three events, starting with the Wawa 250 at Daytona International Speedway on August 23.
McLaughlin will then return to the driver’s seat of the entry for the Focused Health 250 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on September 7, and finally the United Rentals 250 at Talladega Superspeedway on October 5.
Sponsorship for McLaughlin’s effort with SS-GreenLight Racing will come in the form of Main Street Auto, a company that owns and operates more than 60 trusted local auto repair shops across the United States.
In an Instagram post, McLaughlin said: “[Main Street Auto] represents everything I identify with, so if you need your car serviced make sure you check them out and find your closest location.”
The August 23 event at Daytona will mark the first NASCAR Xfinity Series attempt for McLaughlin since Phoenix Raceway earlier this Spring, a race where he failed to qualify while driving the No. 38 Ford Mustang for RSS Racing.
Since making his series debut in 2019, McLaughlin has amassed 42 starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for several different organizations. In those starts, the 32-year-old driver managed to score a top-10 finish at Texas Motor Speedway in 2022, and five top-20s.
Throughout his tenure in the second-tier series, McLaughlin has made three starts at both Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway, earning best finishes of 27th and 13th, respectively. In two starts at Atlanta, McLaughlin has a best finish of 35th.
In the opening 20 events of the season, SS-GreenLight Racing has featured a revolving door of drivers in its No. 14 entry, including Daniel Suarez, JJ Yeley, RC Enerson, Logan Bearden, David Starr, Mason Massey, Andre Castro, Brad Perez, and Chad Finchum.
Between its nine drivers, the No. 14 team has recorded three top-20 finishes, coming with Mason Massey at Talladega, David Starr at Iowa, and most recently JJ Yeley at Pocono.
With the entry set to contest the entire 33-race Xfinity Series campaign in 2024, McLaughlin should have some owner points to fall back on, should he fail to post a lap ranked among the top-33 on the qualifying speed charts.
