Video: Michael McDowell Spins, Crashes HARD in Southern 500

Michael McDowell’s race has come to an end on lap 30, as he went into the outside wall, while battling with Erik Jones and spun hard into the inside wall during Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway.

“Yeah, just really unfortunate,” McDowell said after exiting the infield care center. “I hate it for everyone at Front Row. It’s not the way we wanted to start our Playoffs. Not really sure exactly how it happened. The 43 was falling back pretty quick there. Kind of split him, got underneath that new patch, got loose and got in the wall.”

McDowell became the Cinderella story of the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs with his dramatic win in the season-opening Daytona 500. Now, the Front Row Motorsports driver will definitely need to win or get extremely lucky if he hopes to move on to the Round of 12 in the Playoffs.
