Holmes, Deegan and Sam Mayer were battling for the top-spot coming to the first scheduled race break, when contact between the cars of Deegan and Holmes sent the No. 23 for a spin in turn two. All three drivers received some damage in the incident, but would still be able to recover for solid top-five results.

Holmes was very vocal post-race about the incident, dishing his thoughts and feelings about the incident in post-race coverage on MAVTV.
"You don't have to race that way. I passed a couple of cars pretty clean and rubbed on a couple, but nothing like that. I didn't have to knock them out of the race track. It's just a lack of respect and hate that people are raised that way." – Bret Holmes on Hailie Deegan#ARCA

Chandler Smith, who was involved in an incident with both Hailie Deegan and Bret Holmes on Saturday Night, had this to say in response to Holmes’ comments.
