For those of you wondering, Kyle Busch isn’t a natural dirt racer, but you wouldn’t know that by his performance in a heat race for Wednesday’s Tulsa Shootout, where the two-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion captured the victory after starting in eighth.

“Yeah, it was fun,” Busch said in an interview on FloRacing. “Really appreciate Christopher Bell, Joe B. Miller all the guys, it’s really fun, just different. Different atmosphere, different type of car, so just wheeling it, trying to get the most I could. I watched my son yesterday, he gave me all the tricks, pass them on the high side, so we took it to them right there, that was fun.”

“I’m just… amazed at how many cars they can stuff in such a small space, that’s number one,” Busch continued. “A lot of talent here, a lot of big names in this world anyway, so it’s obviously fun to just go participate and race against guys with different backgrounds.”

To say that Busch – a two-time NCS Champion and winner of 200+ races in NASCAR’s top-three series — was excited, is an understatement, so much so that he let an f-bomb slip at the end of this interview.

“It was close, I just about backed it up too far in turn three there on the last lap, I told myself down the backstretch, ‘alright, don’t fuck this up, make sure you do it right’, and low and behold I almost did it. So, at least another Kyle is able to come out here and do good on dirt.”

The final statement is a reference to 2021 NASCAR Cup Series Champion Kyle Larson, who has dominated the dirt racing scene over the last two seasons, while also notching a 10-win season at NASCAR’s top-level for Hendrick Motorsports.
