Video: Gio Ruggiero, Ben Rhodes Swept Up in Lap 1 Crash at Homestead

On the opening lap of Friday night’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Baptist Health 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Gio Ruggiero’s promising Rookie of the Year campaign hit its first snag.

Going into Turns 2 on Lap 1, Ruggiero made contact with Ross Chastain’s No. 44 Niece Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado, which sent him into the side of Grant Enfinger’s No. 9 CR7 Motorsports machine.

Ruggiero would lose control of his truck, and would spin rear-first into the outside wall.

Two-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Ben Rhodes had nowhere to go, and piled into the side of Ruggiero’s truck while trying to skirt past the incident on the high-side of the track. Both drivers suffered a good bit of damage, but were able to get repairs without losing a lap.
