South Point Casino & Hotel, the popular casino with a long-standing heritage as a sponsor for many organizations, is set to join forces with Thad Moffitt and Faction46 for Friday’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Owned by the Gaughan family, South Point is typically the location where most team personnel, media, and industry stakeholders stay when visiting Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the NASCAR Cup Series’ two race weekends each season.
“We are proud to be representing South Point Casino on our truck this weekend,” said Faction46 owner, Lane Moore. “This is such a familiar scheme that has raced in the NASCAR Cup, Xfinity, and Truck Series throughout the years. We are proud to join the family of racers who enjoy South Point Casino while visiting Las Vegas.”
With the brand-new colors, Moffitt, the grandson of Richard Petty, is ready to tackle the first true intermediate track of the year at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in what will serve as his seventh start in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
“There are only a few teams who came out of Daytona and Atlanta really happy,” said Thad Moffitt, driver of the No. 46 Chevrolet Silverado. “We have some work to do, but we’re happy that we’re going to an intermediate track where we won’t be stacked on top of each other. We will still be drafting in Las Vegas, but we won’t be reliant as much on having a push. We can make the difference behind the wheel and with our trucks handling.”
The 23-year-old racer knows that his setup on the intermediate tracks is where the newly-formed Faction46 team can thrive, having the experience of veteran crew chief Doug George on top of the box for Friday;’s 200-mile contest.
“We showed that we had a lot of speed in our trucks at Daytona and Atlanta,” continued Moffitt. “Going into Las Vegas, these intermediate races are where handling, setup and strategy are so important. Having a veteran like Doug lead a new team, we just know that we’re going to come out of the box with a well-prepared hot rod and be ready to race. I’m looking forward to Friday night.”
The 2024 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series campaign has gotten off to a rough start for Moffitt and Faction46, as the Trinity, North Carolina native currently sits 36th in point standings after a pair of wrecks in the opening two races of 2024.
