For the first time in three decades of NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competition, the series is heading to Lakeville, Connecticut, to turn laps around Lime Rock Park.
In a practice session scheduled for 50 minutes on Friday afternoon, Jordan Taylor, a four-time champion in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, topped the speed charts.
Taylor is making his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut this weekend at the 1.478-mile road course, piloting the No. 7 Gainbridge Chevrolet Silverado RST for Spire Motorsports.
The Orlando, Florida-native posted a lap time of 54.083 seconds around Lime Rock Park, which equates to 98.364mph. Taylor turned 23 laps around the circuit on Friday, in preparation for Saturday’s LiUNA! 150.
“I knew I was going to have a good truck coming with Spire Motorsports, they’ve been up front all year,” Taylor said after practice. “I knew it was going to be down to me to figure it out and learn it because the equipment is there, but getting up to speed was interesting, obviously being my first time in a Truck. I know the track well, but the truck is a different animal than what I’m used to here.”

Taylor, Spire Motorsports, and crew chief Brian Pattie took the chance to make a mock qualifying run at the end of the practice session on Friday, which shot him to the top of the speed charts over 17-year-old Brent Crews, who led the majority of the session.
Crews still ended up second-place on the speed charts in the No. 1 JBL Toyota Tundra TRD Pro for TRICON Garage, while a qualifying run at the end of the session catapulted Kaden Honeycutt into third-place.
Corey Heim, the points leader in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, was fourth-quickest in the practice session, with Grant Enfinger rounding out the top five when the red and black flags were displayed.
Andres Perez De Lara was sixth fastest, with Ty Majeski, Rajah Caruth, Ben Rhodes, and Pocono race-winner Layne Riggs rounding out the top-10.
Thomas Annunziata, making his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut for Spire Motorsports in the No. 07 Chevrolet Silverado, ranked 13th in the practice session, while other debutants ranked behind him.
Alex Labbe was 25th quickest in practice for Reaume Brothers Racing, Ben Maier was 26th for Young’s Motorsports, William Lambros was 31st for Reaume Brothers Racing, and Wesley Slimp was 33rd for Halmar Friesen Racing.
Slimp only got the opportunity to turn 16 laps around Lime Rock Park before the underside of his No. 62 HNTB Toyota Tundra TRD Pro caught fire, and forced him to park it in the garage for the remainder of the session.
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will not return to the racetrack on Friday, with the series’ next on-track action being qualifying on Saturday at 9:30 AM ET. Coverage of qualifying will be on FS1.
