G2G Racing, which fields the No. 46 and No. 47 entries in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, has elected to appeal the penalties assessed to the team by NASCAR on Thursday.
In a statement from Tim Viens, co-owner of G2G Racing, the team announced its intentions to appeal, saying: “Today, we were informed by NASCAR that our window nets did not fit within the rule book. We truly feel both window nets were within the guidelines NASCAR has in their rulebook.”

At this time, Young’s Motorsports has not issued a statement regarding the penalties to the No. 12 and No. 20 Chevrolet Silverado teams.
G2G Racing and Young’s Motorsports, two teams that field multiple entries in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, have been assessed significant penalties as the series approaches its 10th event of the 2023 season.
NASCAR announced the penalties, labeled as safety violations, on Thursday, which stemmed from the series’ previous two events at Kansas Speedway and Darlington Raceway.
The violations stem from Sections 14.2.3.3.1 B and C of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Rule Book, which specifically indicates that the driver’s window net must meet the SFI 27.1 specifications, and must not be used beyond two years from the date of manufacturing.
From Kansas, Spencer Boyd (No. 12) and Nick Leitz (No. 20) have each, alongside their teams, been docked 25 points, while crew chiefs Brad Means and Joe Lax have been assessed a monetary fine of $5,000.
From last weekend’s event at Darlington, the No. 46 and No. 47 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro entries for G2G Racing have been docked 25 owner points, while crew chiefs Tim Silva and Daniel Killius have been assessed monetary fines of $5,000.
Dawson Cram and Brennan Poole were the drivers of the G2G Racing machines at Darlington, but since they are ineligible for NASCAR Truck Series points, there were no driver-point deductions made with the penalty.
The penalties have a significant impact to each of the four teams, who entering a jam-packed entry list at North Wilkesboro, already sat 32nd or worse in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series owner points.
