According to a Facebook update on Friday from MBM Motorsports, Timmy Hill and Chad Finchum will attempt to work their way into the field for the 2021 Daytona 500. The update states that both drivers will be behind the wheel of Fords as they chase a spot in the coveted race.
Hill will presumably reprise his role as the driver of the No. 66 entry for MBM.
A season ago, Hill scored two top-20 finishes for MBM Motorsports. One a 19th-place effort at Bristol Motor Speedway and the other being a 15th-place effort at Talladega in the fall.
The update from team owner Carl Long also suggests the No. 49, which Chad Finchum drove in a part-time role last season, may change to a different number for 2021. Long said No. 13, 46, 61, 67 or 72 are all options on the table for that car.
Clinton Cram will return as the crew chief for Hill in 2021, while Mark Hillman has been added to the team for 2021 to serve as the crew chief for Finchum, who will attempt more Cup Series races than in 2020, according to Long. In 2020, Finchum attempted to qualify for four NCS races and made the field for three of them.
On the Xfinity Series side of things for MBM, Patrick Magee will serve alongside Cram and Hillman as the third crew chief for the team this season. The NASCAR Xfinity Series cars will have a mixture of Hill, Finchum, Stephen Leicht and other drivers who bring sponsorship behind the wheel in 2021.
Leicht served as the spotter for Finchum at Talladega Superspeedway last season, and he will do so again for Daytona International Speedway.
Another interesting addition to the team is Doug Richert, who will serve as the team’s competition director. Richert won the NASCAR Cup Series championship in 1980 as Dale Earnhardt’s crew chief and he also helped Greg Biffle to a runner-up spot in the championship standings in 2005 as a crew chief. Richert has 13-career wins under his belt from atop the pit box. He’ll look to help MBM become a much faster team in 2021.
