On Saturday Evening NASCAR announced that they would be handing down a penalty for Stewart-Haas Racing’s No. 98 team, following the loss of weight from the car on the pace laps in Saturday Afternoon’s Hooters 250 at Homestead.
The penalties for the No. 98 (driven by Chase Briscoe) are identical to the ones handed down to Denny Hamlin and the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 11 when they lost weight out of the No. 11 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Richard Boswell (Crew Chief), Nick Hutchins (Car Chief) and DJ Vanderley (Engineer) have all been suspended for four points-paying NASCAR Xfinity Series events, beginning with tomorrow’s race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
NASCAR has indicated that all three crew members will be allowed to be replaced on the crew rosters, and that there would be no further penalties in the form of points or monetary fines.
Greg Zipadelli will be the crew chief on the No. 98 tomorrow afternoon, the car chief and engineer are currently TBD.
Briscoe’s No. 98 Ford was obligated to come to pit road at the beginning of the race to fix the issue, falling six laps down in the process. Briscoe was able to rebound to finish seventh on the lead lap.
