A stiff penalty was handed out to Richard Childress Racing’s No. 2 NASCAR Xfinity Series team on Tuesday, following the car dropping ballast during practice this past weekend at Martinsville Speedway.

Ballast being lost or separated from a NASCAR vehicle is in violation of section 10.5.2.5.F of the NASCAR Rule Book.

As a result of the safety infraction, Sheldon Creed’s crew chief Jeff Stankiewicz, the team’s car chief Kris McCabe and the team engineer Sam Bowers have all been suspended for the next four NASCAR Xfinity Series races.

Creed, 24, sits 15th in the NASCAR Xfinity Series championship standings after eight races in the 2022 season. The California-native has scored four top-10 finishes so far during his NXS rookie campaign.

However, Creed has scored back-to-back finishes of 22nd-or-worse, so, now he’ll look to bounce back without his crew chief, car chief and engineer at the race track for the next four events.
