Sam Hunt Racing is looking to continue building upon it’s recent momentum in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and have tapped a very fluent road racer Brandon Gdovic to pilot their No. 26 Toyota Supra in the upcoming NASCAR Xfinity Series event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course on July 4th.

According to a team press release, Gdovic’s entry will have primary sponsorship from WindStax Energy and associate sponsorship from ComServe.

The release also hints that Gdovic could see more action with SHR during other road course events during the 2020 season.

If you’re a NASCAR fan wondering where you’ve seen Gdovic’s name before, the 28-year old has previously competed in eight NASCAR Xfinity Series events — seven of them on ovals.

Gdovic’s career-best finish to date is a 13th-place effort at Watkins Glen in 2015.

The Pennsylvania-native, who is a Lamborghini Super Trofeo champion, is ready to test his skills in the Xfinity Series for the first time in nearly four years.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in an Xfinity car for the first time in a few years”, said Gdovic in a team release. “These cars are a lot of fun to drive on road courses and it should be an interesting race for the series’ first time on the Indy infield. I am excited about getting to team up with Sam and his team in a reunion from when he raced with our team back in 2012. The Sam Hunt Racing crew have put together a great team and car that I’m confident will result in a strong finish for us in Indy! I appreciate that my long-time sponsors WindStax Energy and ComServe Wireless are coming on board for this event.”

In addition to his previous starts in the NXS, Gdovic also has run events in the ARCA Menards Series as well as the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (now known as the ARCA Menards Series East), where he won an event in 2013.

27-year old team owner Sam Hunt feels that Gdvoic is one of the toughest drivers he’s known personally, and is looking to see what he can do behind the wheel of his machine.

“Brandon is one of the most talented, fierce race car drivers I’ve known or competed with. From stock cars to sports cars, he has always had an innate ability to take his equipment and maximize its performance,” Said Hunt. “His understanding of how stock cars function, as well as his experience and success in the sports car world have all of us excited to go to Indianapolis for the very first Indy Road Course event. We are excited to bring some heat to the big teams and think Brandon will embrace the grittiness and passion our little team has. In addition, it will also give Colin (Garrett) an experienced teammate he can learn from and bounce ideas off of- especially on the road racing side of the sport.”

Sam Hunt Racing has competed in five NASCAR Xfinity Series races dating back to the 2019 series finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The organization’s best finish to date was a 14th-place performance at Homestead a couple of weeks ago. This past week at Talladega Superspeedway, they were in position to score another solid finish, when they were swept up in a huge crash. However, the team has had some speed in recent weeks and will look to keep that going as they march forward.
