Ryan Sieg was the Cinderella story of the 2019 NASCAR Xfinity Series season.

The underfunded racer improved his equipment in the offseason and his investment paid off with his first Playoff appearance. However, Friday at Texas Motor Speedway, Sieg took a hard shot in opening practice for Saturday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts 300.

In the closing minutes of the session, Sieg lost control coming off of turn two. His slapped the outside wall with the back-end of his No. 39 car. He then spun to the inside of the track and absolutely obliterated the car with hard contact to the inside wall as well.

The No. 39 team, which scored a top-10 finish and a Stage win at Texas in the spring, will be relegated to a back up car this time around.

Sieg was seventh-fastest in opening practice at the time of his crash.
