Well, file this one under the worrisome scenario category. According to a report from Sport Business Journal’s Adam Stern, teams are seeking help from NASCAR and race tracks to be able to afford transitioning to the upcoming new Gen 7 race car.

Stern also went on to tweet that the expected costs associated with upgrading to the new car are in the tens of millions of dollars. With teams pulling out all the stops to scrape enough sponsorship to run full seasons it is understandable why team owners would be fearful of the price tag to update the car model.

Also, the radical changes that NASCAR has proposed to the cars will make any Gen 6 cars the teams have in their stable obsolete.
