Road America, the longest circuit of the NASCAR Cup Series schedule, will be getting a brand-new coat of asphalt after next season, according to a August 10 report from Dave Kallmann of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

According to the report, “at least some shareholders” were recently briefed about the facility’s plans to resurface the 4.048-mile road course outside of Elkart Lake, Wisconsin, with an official announcement regarding the track’s plans to be made fairly soon.

While the NASCAR Xfinity Series has been visiting the historic road course since 2010, the drivers of the NASCAR Cup Series returned to the four-mile road course for the first-time in 65 years, this July, with Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott further cementing his legacy as the series’ road course king with his seventh career road course victory.

Some drivers have voiced their grievances with particular areas of the track, including the kink, which proved to be one the biggest trouble spots for the drivers of the NASCAR Cup Series. While this was also mentioned in the report, there was no clear indication on the possibility of changing the tracks layout, or the addition / removal of runoff areas throughout the course.
