Video: Playoff Contender Justin Allgaier Pounds Inside Wall at Kansas

Welp, that’s not how you want to start your NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoff run. On Lap 70 of Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoff opener at Kansas Speedway, Allgaier got into Sheldon Creed on the exit of Turn 2.

As Allgaier made contact with Creed, it sent his No. 7 JR Motorsports Chevrolet spinning, and at the high-speed 1.5-mile oval, Allgaier couldn’t get the car wrangled before it would collide hard with the inside wall.

The No. 7 team would make repairs to his car, but on the ensuing restart, Allgaier would crash again, which would signal the end of his race.

After a trip to the infield care center, Allgaier was asked about the initial incident which damaged his car.

“I wish I could tell you, Marty,” Allgaier said to The CW’s Marty Snider when asked what happened. “We got to that restart there, and we went to the top, and I thought we were going to be in great shape. The inside row, I think they got two or three wide there, and I still thought the outside row was going to be the right choice. Sheldon kind of got checked up. We lifted a couple of times, and you can just see from the momentum, it was really weird.”

Allgaier continued, “I don’t know if me being behind him was making him that loose, but once we got to corner exit, it took off on me. And from there, I have to figure out how to not hit the inside wall in that situation. It seemed like it slid forever, and was super frustrating.”

Allgaier entered the race as the No. 1 seed in the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs, but he will not be the top dog next week at Talladega Superspeedway after this crash.
