Daytona International Speedway is costly for race teams due to the 2.5-mile superspeedway’s tendency to serve as the catalyst of ripping race cars apart in massive crashes. On Wednesday, three NASCAR Xfinity Series teams received an additional hit in the post-Daytona weekly penalty report.

According to NASCAR’s penalty report, the No. 27 Jordan Anderson Racing team, the No. 28 RSS Racing team, and the No. 45 Alpha Prime Racing team have all been assessed L1-level penalties stemming from pre-race inspection prior to Friday’s Wawa 250 at Daytona International Speedway.

As a result, all three race teams, and their drivers Jeb Burton, Kyle Sieg, and Caesar Bacarella will all be docked 20 driver points, 20 owner points, and five Playoff Points, and crew chiefs Shane Whitbeck, Joe Williams, and Kase Kallenbach have all been fined $25,000.

All three cars were found to be in violation of sections 14.4.A, and 14.4.11.C&D of the NASCAR Xfinity Series Rule Book, which pertains to the rear bumper covers on the cars. The penalties dished out by NASCAR are consistent with L1-level infractions based on the penalty options listed in 10.5.2.2.B of the NASCAR Xfinity Series Rule Book.

As a result of the penalties, Jeb Burton, the lone full-time driver affected, will drop from 19th in the NASCAR Xfinity Series championship standings to 20th.

The No. 27 Jordan Anderson Racing team will drop from 22nd in the NASCAR Xfinity Series owner standings to 23rd, while the No. 28 RSS Racing team will slide from 26th to 28th, and the No. 45 Alpha Prime Racing team will remain 36th.

There were no other penalties announced stemming from this past weekend’s NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series race weekend at Daytona International Speedway.
