Mike Harmon Racing (MHR) has picked up a set of owner points from Richard Childress Racing entering Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Kansas Speedway.

The organization, which fields the No. 74 Chevrolet Camaro on a part-time basis in the second-tier series, has acquired the 43rd-place set of owner points from RCR’s one-off No. 33 entry, which ran a single event at Charlotte in May.

While the acquisition doesn’t necessarily lock the Mike Harmon Racing team into the field for the remainder of the season, it does crucially jump the No. 74 above the Joey Gase Motorsports No. 53, meaning the team isn’t in a do-or-die situation.

Being in that exact position has been a major detriment to Mike Harmon Racing, who in 10 attempted NASCAR Xfinity Series events this season has only qualified for three, after running with several drivers including Dawson Cram, Ryan Vargas, Jade Buford, and Tim Viens.

With 39 drivers entered in Saturday’s Kansas Lottery 300 at Kansas Speedway, Mike Harmon Racing and the No. 74 Chevrolet will look to make the field as the second-lowest team in NASCAR Xfinity Series owner points.

The driver for Mike Harmon Racing’s No. 74 Chevrolet at Kansas has yet to be confirmed.
