The highly-anticipated return of Max Papis to competition in NASCAR’s top-three series will have to wait, as Rick Ware Racing announced on Thursday Afternoon that Papis had tested positive for COVID-19, and would be unable to race in Saturday’s Pennzoil 150 at Indy’s Road Course. J.J. Yeley will pilot the No. 17 Nurtec ODT Chevrolet Camaro in this weekends event.

“It’s always an unfortunate event when another driver has to be taken out of the car,” said Yeley. “I have a great respect for Max and all that he has done for the motorsport’s world. I will try my best to get the Nurtec ODT (Rimegepant) car in the show and compete on Saturday.”

Driving for SS Green Light Racing and Our Motorsports, Yeley has made seven NASCAR Xfinity Series starts this season, recording a best finish of 12th-place at Homestead Miami Speedway in February.

“We were so excited to see the return of Max Papis after our conversation in Nashville last weekend,” said Rick Ware. ” We knew he would be competitive at the legendary Brickyard with the extensive history he has at the track. I hope Max has a speedy recovery from COVID-19. We were lucky enough to have JJ on hand because he is driving the #51 Nurtec ODT (Rimegepant) midget at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Dirt Track event on Monday. We have all the confidence in the world that JJ will be competitive in the Nurtec ODT (Rimegepant) Chevrolet this Saturday.”

On Wednesday Afternoon, Max Papis was officially announced as the driver of the No. 17 for SS Green Light Racing w/ Rick Ware Racing, with the first report coming from TobyChristie.com in the early hours of Wednesday Morning.
