Sammy Smith scored an electrifying win in overtime in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series United Rentals 250 at Talladega Superspeedway after making a last-lap pass on Riley Herbst.

Smith would cross the finish line ahead of Ryan Sieg to take his first win of the 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, a win which will advance him to the Round of 8 of the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs.

After the win, Smith’s race-winning No. 8 JR Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro was taken to post-race inspection, where NASCAR officials made sure that the car was legal. After going over the car, the machine was given a passing grade, which allowed NASCAR to declare Smith and his race team the official winners of the race.

This is officially the second win of Smith’s 76-race NASCAR Xfinity Series career.

Sam Mayer (16th-place finisher) was disqualified as his No. 1 JR Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro was too low in the rear in post-race inspection, and Chandler Smith’s No. 81 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota GR Supra had one loose lug nut, which will result in a monetary fine for the No. 81 crew chief.

No other issues were detected in post-race inspection, which means all results and standings following Saturday’s race are now considered official. Ryan Sieg finished in the runner-up spot ahead of Riley Herbst, Sheldon Creed, and Chandler Smith.
