NASCAR Cup Series race-winner Christopher Bell is set to join the field for the Chilango 150 at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, the first NASCAR Xfinity Series event in Mexico City since 2008.

The Norman, Oklahoma-native will pilot the No. 24 Mobil 1 Toyota GR Supra for Sam Hunt Racing in the series’ historic return south of the border.

Bell, a 12-time winner in the NASCAR Cup Series and a 19-time winner in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, will compete in the event to gain experience for the inaugural Cup Series event on June 15.

“I have always respected Sam and what he’s done in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. For such a young team owner to come onto the scene and have success and be part of Toyota has been a big deal,” Bell said. “Being part of this team is something I look forward to being a part of and hopefully fighting for Sam Hunt Racing’s first-ever Xfinity Series win.”

“It will be a unique experience going to a new racetrack for most of us in the series, and hopefully, it provides a good learning experience before the Sunday Cup Series race. It will be a double-header Mobil 1 weekend for me in the XFINITY car and the Cup car.”

Since becoming a full-time NASCAR Cup Series driver in 2020, Bell has only made sporadic appearances in the second-tier series, racking up six additional starts and three victories.

Earlier this season, Bell got behind the wheel of the No. 19 Toyota GR Supra for Joe Gibbs Racing at Darlington Raceway, where after winning the pole, a late-race problem dropped him to 25th.

“This is without a doubt an extremely exciting opportunity for our organization, having Christopher come to SHR with a genuine desire to battle for this team’s first win in Mexico City,” said Sam Hunt. “Christopher’s talent and ability speak for themselves, but he’s also a great friend and a guy who has always supported this team and our growth over the years.

“Anytime we run strong, he seems to be the first Cup driver to reach out, to encourage us to keep pushing. Now, in partnership with the Mobil 1 family, we’re finally able to work together as one team. It’s special to see Christopher’s excitement match ours, and we’re working our hardest in the shop to put Christopher and Dean in a position to run extremely strong south of the border.”

Brian Gainey will serve as the crew chief for Bell in the NASCAR Xfinity Series event in Mexico City. Gainey was previously with Joe Gibbs Racing, where he worked as car chief for three of his Xfinity Series wins.
