NASCAR Announces Post-Martinsville Penalties; L1 Penalty for Suarez and Trackhouse, Xfinity Hauler Driver Indefinitely Suspended

On Tuesday Afternoon, NASCAR announced seven penalties across the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series, for various violations from the latest race weekend at Martinsville Speedway.

NASCAR Cup Series:

In pre-race inspection, Daniel Suarez and Trackhouse Racing’s No. 99 was found to have an improperly mounted ballast. Travis Mack – the team’s crew chief — was ejected from competition at Martinsville Speedway and the team has since been docked 10 driver points and 10 owner points.

In post-race inspection, the cars of Kyle Larson (No. 5), Chase Briscoe (No. 14) and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (No. 47) were found to have one lug nut improperly secured. As a result, crew chiefs Cliff Daniels (No. 5), John Klausmeier (No. 14) and Brian Patte (No. 47) have all been fined $10,000.

NASCAR Xfinity Series:

In post-race inspection, Brandon Jones’ No. 19 Toyota Supra was found to have an improperly secured lug nut. As a result, crew chief Jeff Meendering has been fined $5,000.

Blaine Perkins’ No. 23 Chevrolet Camaro for Our Motorsports was in violation of Sections 12.5.2.7.4: Loss or seperation of an improperly installed rear axle from the vehicle. Tire Technician Brian Graham has been suspended from the series’ next event at Talladega Superspeedway.

Finally, Kurt Butcher, a hauler driver for Sam Hunt Racing has been indefinite suspended by NASCAR, for violation of Sections 12.1 and 19, in regards to the Substance Abuse Policy. Butcher will need to go through NASCAR’s Road to Recovery Program, before being reinstated.
