After thousands of retweets, likes, and shares, Sammy Wilson will live out every NASCAR fan’s dream as he’ll wave the green flag at Atlanta Motor Speedway in July.

Atlanta Motor Speedway shared the offer on Twitter on Friday, coming from Brandon Hutchison, who serves as the executive vice president and general manager of the speedway.

A little over 20 minutes later, Sammy accepted the offer to become the honorary starter for the Quaker State 400 Presented by Walmart.

It was on June 10th that Sammy made his wish known to the NASCAR community. Sammy, who is on the autism spectrum, has used his social media to help raise autism awareness. Now, the community has reciprocated the love and helped to get the attention of Atlanta Motor Speedway. Everyone from drivers, owners, and those outside of the NASCAR realm all promoted the wish on their own accounts.

The connection to the Atlanta weekend for Sammy is unique. With the race being presented by Walmart, and Sammy getting his first job with the company, it seemed like a perfect match.

Now, Sammy’s wish is about to be fulfilled.

Fans can see Sammy wave the green flag for the Quaker State 400 on Sunday, July 11th at 3:30 PM EST on NBCSN.
