While the main focus of the final lap crash of Thursday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series Shady Rays 200 at Kentucky Speedway was on Ronnie Bassett Jr. and Timmy Hill who suffered scary looking impacts, the two drivers were able to walk away and were checked and released from the infield care center following the race. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the third driver involved in the crash, Justin Allgaier.
Justin Allgaier Transported to Local Hospital After Final Lap Crash at Kentucky
NASCAR has announced that following Thursday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series Shady Rays 200 at Kentucky Speedway, Allgaier has been transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. Although the FOX broadcast cameras were focused on the insane impact that Bassett took into the inside wall, it appears that Allgaier’s No. 7 Brandt Chevrolet took a shot into the driver side from Hill’s No. 61 car as the No. 7 was spinning to the inside of the track in the final lap incident.
No word has been given at this time about Allgaier’s condition or potential injuries. This story will be updated as information becomes available.
The Illinois-native looked to have a top-five finish sewed up, when his teammate Noah Gragson made contact with him on a late race restart. This sent both drivers back into the pack.
Allgaier, who substituted for Jimmie Johnson in last week’s NASCAR Cup Series Brickyard 400 after the seven-time champion tested positive for COVID-19, has 11-career wins in NASCAR Xfinity Series competition. The 34-year old JR Motorsports driver sits sixth in the NXS driver standings after Thursday’s race.

As is usually the case in these types of situation, numerous of people claiming to know of Allgaier’s condition have begun to spread rumors on Twitter and other social media channels. Ashley Allgaier, the wife of Justin Allgaier, has Tweeted that unless you see an update on Allgaier’s condition come directly from her or JR Motorsports, that it should not be considered credible.

JR Motorsports has released a Friday morning statement updating the condition of Justin Allgaier. According to the statement, Allgaier was treated for non-racing related medical reasons and has now been released from a local hospital.

Justin Allgaier was treated and released from a local hospital early this morning for non-racing related medical purposes following last night’s event at Kentucky Speedway. He will undergo further evaluation today before being cleared to race.

Following the update from JR Motorsports, Allgaier’s wife Ashley Allgaier thanked everyone for keeping her husband in their prayers and that she can’t wait to give him a big hug.

According to the JR Motorsports update, Allgaier, who is scheduled to race again on Friday in another Xfinity Series event at Kentucky Speedway, will need further evaluation and will have to be medically cleared to return to the race track.

Justin Allgaier has given an update on his medical condition in a video. Allgaier says that his hospital trip occurred due to him having an elevated heart rate following Thursday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Kentucky, where he crashed on the final lap.
