Joe Gibbs Racing has had their foot on the throat of the competition for the last year. The trend continued in the first on-track action of the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season as Erik Jones led the Joe Gibbs Racing quartet of drivers in sweeping the top-four positions of final Busch Clash practice.

Jones just missed out on eclipsing the 200-mile-per-hour barrier as his fast lap was 199.756 mph. Denny Hamlin was second-fastest followed by Martin Truex Jr. and defending Cup Series champion Kyle Busch was fourth.

Ryan Blaney was the fastest of the rest in the field in fifth.

All 18 drivers took laps in the session, but not all of them drafted.

William Byron, Jimmie Johnson and Kyle Larson — who were the final three on the speed charts — opted just to make sure the essentials were correct with their cars heading into Sunday’s Busch Clash.
