Once James McFadden drew pole position for the six lap Dash that determined the top six starting positions in the 30-lap feature at Lawrenceburg Speedway, the rest of the World of Outlaws competition were in trouble.
The Australian won the six-car race and then went on to lead every lap of the $10,000 to-win feature race to pick up his third win of the 2023 season.
“We’ve obviously been through a lot as a team and I’ve just got to thank everyone for sticking behind us,” McFadden said, referring to his team’s four-race suspension earlier in May after failing a tire test following April’s race at I-55 Raceway. “To be standing here at Lawrenceburg, it’s pretty crazy. It’s a tough joint, man, I just always felt uncomfortable here.”
The race win did not come without a fierce challenge. Carson Macedo in the No. 41 Jason Johnson Racing entry challenged McFadden near the midway point of the race but the No. 83 Roth Motorsports machine would not surrender the lead on what was a mostly single-groove track for the evening. Macedo’s result tied him for the World of Outlaws points lead with Brad Sweet, who finished ninth.
The rest of the field provided a bit of controversy and a heated moment or two. Macedo’s brother Cole Macedo went underneath Bill Rose on the backstretch on the race’s ninth lap. Macedo then turned right and hit Rose, causing both Macedo’s No. 29 and Rose’s No. 6 machines to flip in Turn 3. Rose was agitated at Macedo’s move and made his displeasure known on track while the rest of the field was stationary under the red flag.
“I was a slower car, but I was down out of the way,” Rose said. “Cole Macedo just drove over my left side and we both started flipping. I don’t know how Logan [Schuchart] got involved, I don’t know but I feel bad for Logan. Cole Macedo is an idiot.
“He’s an idiot and he just drives like it, too.”
Macedo was in eighth at the time and Rose was 23rd, one lap down at the time of the incident.
“He’s going so much slower than us, I didn’t know what to do when I got next to him and we got together. I don’t really need to talk to him, it is what it is,” Macedo said.

Macedo’s flipping car also damaged Logan Schuchart’s No. 1S machine, but the Shark Racing crew got the car fixed in time for the race’s resumption.
There was another red flag for Spencer Bayston flipping in Turn 4 but that wouldn’t slow McFadden’s charge down. After Macedo finished the rest of the top five was Rico Abreu, Giovanni Scelzi and Buddy Kofoid.
