Believe it or not, there is a difference between rumor and fact. Yet, that didn’t stop a rumor of the demise of Homestead-Miami Speedway from spreading rampant on Twitter Monday evening.

According to the rumor, the land that the race track is currently housed upon had been reclaimed by the City of Homestead, and that it would be converted into a residential property area.

The rumor stated that the scheduled 2020 NASCAR races at the 1.5-mile speedway would be the final ever contested.

The rumor seemed to have legs as Homestead had lost its place as the NASCAR Championship Race venue following the 2019 season, and that the track may or may not expect to have a smaller turnout due to this fact.

Smaller turnout equals smaller profit for the City during race weekend.

That being said, there was only one problem — no journalist worth their weight in salt could actually get a firm confirmation on the rumor.

That is what kept the rumor from becoming a real story.

Then, on Monday night the Mayor of Homestead, Florida, Steve Losner stated via a Facebook post that the rumor circulating was a, “FALSE and UNFOUNDED LIE.”

There you have it.

What seemed like an unfathomable rumor of one of NASCAR’s best race venues folding under and going away forever, is now seemingly nothing more than a rumor likely started by an internet attention seeker.

Homestead-Miami Speedway will seemingly continue on in 2021 and beyond.
