Things didn’t get off to the best start for Denny Hamlin in the NASCAR Xfinity Series this weekend at Darlington Raceway. He slapped the wall in practice, which forced him to a backup car, which also resulted in him starting the race from the rear of the field.
However, Hamlin didn’t stay there long.
In the end, he led 27 laps in the No. 18 Sport Clips Toyota Supra, which was painted like Bill Elliott’s old Budweiser scheme when he drove for Junior Johnson, en route to victory.
This is Hamlin’s sixth Xfinity Series victory at Darlington.
Cole Custer finished second in his No. 00 tribute to Buckshot Jones, and Tyler Reddick, who won Stage 1, held on to finish third in his Kyle Petty 7-Eleven throwback car.
Pole sitter Ryan Blaney won Stage 2 and ended the race in fourth.
Christopher Bell rounded out the top-five finishers.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. worked his way from 14th at the start of Saturday’s race to finish sixth in his lone Xfinity Series race of 2019.
Chase Briscoe, Brandon Jones, Noah Gragson and Justin Allgaier finished seventh through 10th.
