NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. will once again return for his once a year NASCAR Xfinity Series excursion for the 2022 season and he’ll run at Martinsville Speedway on April 8th.

Earnhardt, 47, made the announcement on his Dale Jr. Download Podcast, and stated the effort will be sponsored by Unilever.

“I think we’ve already announced this, but I’m going to announce it again,” Earnhardt said. “This is the official announcement. For my Xfinity race next year for Unilever, I’m going to run at Martinsville, the very first Martinsville race.”

As for why Earnhardt picked Martinsville, the answer is simple… His favorite type of racing is at short tracks.

“I love short tracks,” Earnhardt explained. “People ask me all the time, ‘What was your favorite track? Oh man, I thought you’d say Talladega.’ I either say Martinsville or Bristol given the kind of car I have. Martinsville is a blast, but Bristol is equally as fun depending on how the car is driving.”

Since retiring from full-time NASCAR Cup Series competition at the conclusion of the 2017 season, Earnhardt has competed in a one-off NASCAR Xfinity Series race each and every season.

In his four starts over the last four seasons, Earnhardt has scored a best finish of fourth and he has three top-five finishes in that span. Earnhardt finished 14th in his one off race earlier this season at Richmond.
