It is William Byron’s turn to give the NASCAR NextGen car a test on Monday and Tuesday at Auto Club Speedway. Byron will be the fourth driver to go behind the wheel of a prototype of what teams could be working with for the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season.

Byron will join Austin Dillon, Joey Logano and Erik Jones as the drivers who have take laps in a NextGen car.

According to NBC Sports, the NextGen car that Byron will run in a test session, which is closed to the public, is a third prototype. In this report, it is revealed that Prototype 2 is the same car that Dillon, Logano and Jones drove.

While P3 will also have a sequential gear box, rear diffusers and 18-inch aluminum wheels, much like the P2 did, NBC gives a complete breakdown of what will be different on the P3 here.

The next test of the NextGen car will take place at Atlanta Motor Speedway in March, and a Ford driver will take the wheel. The official driver and team have not been confirmed at this time.
