William Byron Leads Every Lap in Stage 1 to Take First-Career Stage Win

William Byron is having the best race of his young career early in the Toyota Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway. The driver of the No. 24 Hertz Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 started from the outside pole, but took the lead on lap one.

Byron didn’t look back as he led each of the first 21 laps of the race.

When Byron crossed the finish line to end lap 20, he had secured the first Stage win of his career. Byron and 11 other drivers opted to stay on course and finish the opening Stage without pitting, while the rest of the field ducked to pit road before the Stage break to get on a different sequence.

Here were the top-10 drivers who scored Stage points in Stage 1:

  1. William Byron – 10 points plus 1 Playoff point
  2. Denny Hamlin – 9 points
  3. Joey Logano – 8 points
  4. Kyle Larson – 7 points
  5. Aric Almirola – 6 points
  6. Chris Buescher – 5 points
  7. Alex Bowman – 4 points
  8. Kevin Harvick – 3 points

  1. He sure did perform well……..apparently running yesterday didn’t do much for Austin Dillon. He hasn’t cracked the top 10 and only spent a few laps in the top 20!
