Video: Ross Chastain Out of Cup Race at Pocono After Turn 3 Crash

Ross Chastain is out of Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series event at Pocono Raceway after his No. 1 Busch Light Peach Chevrolet Camaro smacked the outside wall in Turn 3.

The Alva, Florida-native enters Sunday’s event at Pocono without a NASCAR Cup Series victory this season, leaving the Trackhouse Racing driver fighting for one of the four remaining Playoff spots currently to be determined by points.

For Chastain, the race-ending problem started in the third corner, when the No. 1 Chevrolet snapped loose and crashed hard into the outside wall. The four-time NASCAR Cup Series winner then limped down the frontstretch before making further contact with the outside wall in the first corner. The radio communication between Chastain and his crew chief Phil Surgen suggests that Chastain suffered a problem with his power steering before crashing into the outside wall.

“I just spun out,” said Chastain. “Yeah, just spun out, not much more to say. Too much gas and hit the wall.”

Pending post-race inspection at Pocono Raceway, Ross Chastain will be credited with a 36th-place finish in The Great American Getaway 400.
